The Faculty of Fisheries Science and Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, led by Associate Professor Dr. Thongchai Nitirat-suwan, in collaboration with the local community, received research funding in 2020 for the “Breeding Season of Mantis Shrimp in the Trang River.” This research project aimed to advise the community on the sustainable management of mantis shrimp resources in the Trang River. Consequently, they worked together with Mr. Saichol Sao-Siaw, the chairman of the Kok Sai River Coast Community Tourism Enterprise, to develop innovative approaches for the sustainability of the local community. They hatched mantis shrimp eggs and released the juvenile mantis shrimp into the Trang River to restore the natural population sustainably. On September 22, 2022, they conducted a successful trial to hatch mantis shrimp eggs, resulting in 80,000 juvenile mantis shrimp, and they continued to release additional batches in the following days. They also organized meetings to present ideas for innovation in the sustainable development of the community, aligning with various aspects for the long-term development of the Yann Sue area.
