Prof. Dr. Suwat Tanyaros, the President, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya with Dr. Chuwit Mitrchob, the Deputy Director of the Office of Area-Based Development for Sustainable Tourism (ABT). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss collaboration and networking to develop special areas for sustainable tourism in Songkhla Lake Basin.
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya has a strategy for regional university development with a focus on tourism industry expertise. This strategy includes research and academic services in the Songkhla Lake Basin area. Additionally, the university aims to promote professional-level tourism and collaborate with various stakeholders, including government, private sector, local communities, and the public, in a consortium format within the existing area, spanning approximately 10 years. Initiatives such as “The Old Town of Songkhla: A Global Heritage” and “Tourism Communities around the Sea,” including the Klong Dan community, Tha Hin community, and Ram Daeng community, are part of this plan. The goal is to develop these areas into special tourism regions, create sustainable tourism, and generate economic benefits for the people living in these regions. This will provide additional income and enhance the livelihoods of local communities in the 15 districts, including Nakorn Sri Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla.
