The owner of the pomelo farm, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Khanom, has shared knowledge to enhance the value of the packaging of high-quality golden pomelo by using banana fiber. This knowledge transfer was facilitated by the U2T For BCG team in Sichon Subdistrict, College of Industrial Technology and Management, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus. The program was led by Dr. Pimpan Jitnanupong, the project leader, along with the working team.
Pimpan Jitnanupong, the project leader, stated that the practical training for developing packaging for high-quality golden pomelo using banana fiber aims to create sustainable packaging for Sichon’s excellent golden pomelo products. This project also promotes and enhances the quality of life by increasing income for the community. Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Khanom, received budget support from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) to carry out various activities under the project “Boosting the Economy and Society at the Grassroots Level Post-COVID with BCG Economy (U2T for BCG).” The project’s goal is to uplift the local economy and society, supporting employment, economic recovery, and community development in response to various community issues and needs. It also involves the collection and management of extensive community data.
Mr. Somchai Raksa-ngern, the village head of Village No. 6, Ban Sichon, stated that as the owner of a pomelo orchard and a community leader, he places great importance on the issue of packaging. The training in using banana fiber for packaging pomelo has allowed the community to add value to their pomelo products. This development has turned their pomelos into excellent souvenirs for guests and visitors, without leaving waste behind, which also contributes to environmental conservation.
