RUTS the 8th Engagement Thailand Annual Conference 2022

On August 10, 2022, Professor Dr. Anek Laothamatas, the Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, had the honor of presiding over the opening of the 8th Engagement Thailand Annual Conference 2022 (Engagement Thailand Annual Conference 2022). During the conference, he delivered a special lecture on the topic “Universities and Fostering Local Intelligence for Sustainable Development.” The event was attended by over 300 researchers, academics, and professionals, along with Mr. Khajohnsak Jarunsopa, the Governor of Trang Province, who welcomed the participants.

Dr. Anek Laothamatas expressed his profound gratitude and emphasized the importance of events like this in disseminating valuable research outcomes and fostering collaboration between universities and society. He praised Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya for hosting the conference and highlighted the role of 12 universities in the southern region, who jointly organized the event. The conference aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and drive engagement between universities and communities, strengthening the ties between academic institutions and the public.

Furthermore, Prof.Dr.Suwat Tanyaros, the President of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, shared insights into the conference’s objectives, focusing on the synergy of university engagement and sustainable community development. The conference provided a platform for sharing best practices and promoting awareness among staff and faculty about the significance of local engagement in university policies, ultimately contributing to societal progress.

This conference encompassed various components, including special lectures and discussions on university missions for community engagement. It featured the presentation of 130 academic papers and showcased collaborative efforts among a network of 13 universities in the southern region. Additionally, it included case studies and site visits to examine five different development initiatives. These activities aimed to promote the practical application of research outcomes, both economically and socially, and foster stronger engagement between researchers and the public.
