RUTS organized a collaborative project with faculty members and students from the Marine Science and Environmental Science program, Faculty of Fisheries Science and Technology, to promote Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14): Life Below Water. The project provided practical training on seagrass ecosystems to 135 participants, including students, teachers, and staff members from the Secondary School, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, who traveled to participate in the environmental education activity related to seagrass ecosystems.
As mentioned earlier, the activity consists of a presentation regarding the classification of seagrass species found on the Andaman coast, the role of the marine grass ecosystem, and the sustainable conservation and restoration of seagrass habitats.
Besides this, students are encouraged to participate in field activities by exploring diversity, density and surveying the aquatic life inhabiting the seagrass beds in Kam Bay, Trang Province.
Engaging in the activities mentioned above enables the youth to understand the role of seagrass in the coastal ecosystem. It instills awareness of the importance of sustainable conservation of seagrass habitats, aligning with the United Nations’ goal of Sustainable Development.
