Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya has a policy and operational guidelines for managing the waste reduction and sorting system within the university, aiming to raise awareness among staff and caregivers, enabling them to take initial corrective actions in response to emerging issues. Therefore, waste reduction and sorting measures within the university are established as follows.

1.Reducing usage to the necessary minimum or using sparingly and avoiding excessive use.

            2. Reuse of items or products.

            3. Separating and collecting materials for use in new manufacturing processes.

            4. Organizing waste separation so that it is managed appropriately and correctly, preventing the recombination of separated waste materials.

            5. Ensuring clear labeling of the types of waste bins, enabling users to dispose of waste correctly.

Evident 1:          Director Thaweesak Sriphung, from the College of Industrial Technology and Management, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, along with the college’s management team, faculty members, staff, alumni, student volunteers, and more than 100 students, engaged in a beach cleaning initiative under the ‘Hands-on White Sandy Beach’ project for the academic year 2022. This effort was conducted at Phae Beach, Thong Nian Subdistrict, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Professor Thaweesak Sriphung stated that in today’s society, there is a strong emphasis on developing and promoting students who possess the qualities of volunteerism. For the College of Industrial Technology and Management at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, which is an educational institution located in the Thong Nian Subdistrict, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, students come from various regions to pursue their studies. The college places a particular focus on producing graduates who not only have knowledge and professional skills but also ethical values and morals. This is aimed at making them vital assets for the country. Hence, the teaching and learning processes at the university do not solely prioritize knowledge, skills, and professional expertise. If they intend to instill in the students the culture of volunteerism and engagement in community development, these activities can be categorized into two main aspects:

1.Volunteer activities involving assistance to those who are disadvantaged or lacking opportunities in various aspects. 2.Volunteer activities aimed at benefiting the community, which are activities driven by a dedication to improving the community and society as a whole.

Mr. Nattapol Phisanthiya, the President of the Student Council for the academic year 2022, revealed that organizing activities to raise students’ awareness and instill volunteerism characteristics, as well as engaging them in the care and maintenance of coastal tourist areas and beaches near the college, has been a significant endeavor. As a result, the Student Council for the academic year 2022, in collaboration with the Student Development Division, initiated the project “Hands-on White Sandy Beach” at four locations: Phae Beach, Sampan Mai Bridge, Laem Prathap, and the Chomlomar Pier in Khao Ao Village. All four locations are key points where tourists must check in.

The main focus is to encourage students and participants to come together, collaborate willingly, and join hands in activities that benefit the community. This initiative promotes volunteerism, fosters a sense of unity within the group, emphasizes the importance of environmental care, raises awareness of the growing waste problem, and cultivates a sense of ownership in public spaces. It is a means of assisting the community in restoring the beauty of the beach areas and preparing the location to welcome future tourists visiting Khanom District.

Evident 2 : The Faculty of Business Administration, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, has delivered a prototype of a plastic waste buoyancy innovation, which is designed to be installed in the conservation zone along the coastal area of the Aquatic Animal Hatchery and Aquaculture Learning Center. This prototype was presented to representatives from PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited, which is a state-owned enterprise. The initiative is part of a joint academic service project between the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Engineering, known as the “Research and Development of Plastic Waste Buoyancy Innovation for Installation in the Conservation Zone along the Coastal Area of the Aquatic Animal Hatchery and Aquaculture Learning Center,” supported by funding from PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited. The buoyancy system includes floats and weighted anchor bars, with components made from plastic waste collected from the coastal area.
