In 2023, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya was implemented a policy to support affordable student dormitories across various campuses, including the Kanom and Sai Yai campuses in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Each semester, the university promotes available dormitory options for students through centralized online channels and the university’s official Facebook page. Given the campuses’ locations far from urban centers, daily commuting can be challenging without a personal vehicle. Therefore, this policy not only alleviates the burden of transportation but also enhances the safety and convenience of student living arrangements, particularly benefiting first-year students.

The dormitory facilities are designed to provide comprehensive amenities for residents. Each room is furnished with essential items, including beds, mattresses, wardrobes, fans, and in-room bathrooms. The dormitories can accommodate up to four students per room, ensuring a communal living environment. The total fee for residing in the dormitory is set at 3,000 baht per student per semester, with electricity charges calculated at 4 baht per unit based on the meter readings. Additionally, a refundable security deposit of 500 baht per student is required, which is returned upon checkout.

By fostering affordable housing solutions within the university vicinity, RUTS aims to create a supportive living environment for students. This initiative not only addresses logistical challenges but also promotes community building among students, enhancing their overall university experience. Moreover, this policy aligns with **Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11**, which seeks to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. By providing accessible housing close to educational institutions, the university contributes to the goal of ensuring affordable housing for all, reducing the need for extensive commuting, and improving the overall quality of life for students. Ultimately, RUTS is taking significant steps toward building a more sustainable and equitable educational environment.
