Details: Pornsil Seephueak, Sakulrat Hansuek, and Patcharaporn Vanichpakorn are conducting research on the Efficacy of Biological Products of Bacillus spp. for Controlling Bacterial Wilt Disease Caused by Ralstonia solanacearum, supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under the 2023 fiscal budget. This research project strictly adheres to laboratory safety and biosafety standards to protect researchers and the environment. Since bacterial wilt pathogens pose risks if handled improperly, the research team has informed relevant agencies of their work with plant pathogens and is following regulated protocols to ensure safety. Key safety practices include mandatory lab coats, personal protective equipment (PPE) for all team members, and autoclaving all biological waste before disposal. Separate waste bins are designated for general waste, biohazardous waste, and broken or damaged glassware to minimize contamination risks.

The team’s commitment to safety extends to a systematic waste management process, with strict guidelines for all hazardous and general waste materials. For example, microbial samples used in the study are autoclaved at high temperatures to eliminate any pathogenic content, ensuring waste leaving the lab is fully sterilized. Broken glassware is handled separately to prevent injury, while biohazardous waste is securely disposed of according to environmental and health standards. These protocols reflect the research team’s dedication not only to advancing agricultural knowledge but also to maintaining a safe research environment. By upholding these rigorous safety measures, the research contributes responsibly to sustainable agricultural practices, aligning with Thailand’s commitment to biosafety in research. Through this study, the team is demonstrating a model of safety and environmental responsibility in laboratory-based agricultural research.
