Nuannoppamon Sri-uthai, Asst. Prof. Dr. Chanadol Supapong, Asst. Prof. Somkid Chaipeth, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Praphot Maliwan from the Faculty of Agriculture at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya have launched a research project titled “Development of Pellet Total Mixed Ration (PTMR) Feeding Patterns on Growth and Feed Efficiency of Weaning Calves.” This project is funded by the Fundamental Fund 2023 and aims to address key challenges in cattle nutrition by improving feeding efficiency for young calves. The team is investigating the effectiveness of PTMR as a comprehensive feeding solution that combines various feed ingredients in pellet form to ensure balanced nutrition. By utilizing PTMR, they aim to enhance the growth rates and health of weaning calves during this crucial developmental stage. The study includes precise measurements of feed conversion ratios to determine how efficiently the calves convert feed into body mass. Additionally, the research explores the potential of PTMR to reduce feed wastage and improve nutrient absorption. The researchers are conducting controlled trials to monitor growth patterns, health indicators, and feed intake among the calves. They also aim to provide recommendations to livestock farmers on optimal feeding practices based on their findings. This project not only contributes to advancing agricultural research but also supports local farmers in improving livestock productivity and sustainability. Through this work, the research team hopes to impact the broader agricultural community by promoting cost-effective and efficient feeding practices for sustainable cattle farming.
