This 10-month research project from 2022 to 2023 focused on studying bird diversity and ecology in Thung Song, culminating in the creation of a book and the formation of a birdwatching club. On July 10, 2023, Thung Song Municipality hosted an event to launch Birds of Thung Song, a field guide authored by Dr. Prasert Nonthakarn, a lecturer from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya. The book showcases the rich bird diversity observed in Thung Song, resulting from Dr. Prasert’s year of in-depth research with support from Thung Song Municipality. With vivid photos and descriptions, Birds of Thung Song is tailored for beginner birdwatchers, providing accessible information to help identify both common and unique species in the area. Dr. Prasert’s publication reflects his dedication to fostering environmental awareness, encouraging the community to appreciate and protect Thung Song’s avian population. During the book launch, he shared his vision for conservation and the importance of protecting local biodiversity. He hopes that this book will inspire the community to take an active role in preserving the natural beauty of Thung Song’s bird habitats.

In addition to the book, Dr. Prasert established the Thung Song Bird Club to engage community members in birdwatching and conservation activities. The club seeks to monitor bird populations, promote sustainable birdwatching, and educate locals on the ecological significance of birds in maintaining environmental balance. Through organized events such as birdwatching outings, habitat preservation projects, and educational workshops, Dr. Prasert encourages residents to actively participate in conservation efforts. He believes that by connecting residents with nature, the community will develop a deeper commitment to preserving bird habitats. The club serves as a platform for local birdwatching enthusiasts, promoting environmental responsibility across Thung Song. With these initiatives, Dr. Prasert envisions a unified community dedicated to protecting the local ecosystems and ensuring that future generations can enjoy Thung Song’s diverse birdlife.
