Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya promotes biodiversity protection, with specific policies focused on conserving species often misunderstood, such as snakes. Snakes and humans frequently come into conflict due to fear and lack of knowledge, leading to unnecessary snake killings. Although some snakes are venomous, the majority pose no threat to humans, and all snakes contribute significantly to maintaining ecological balance by controlling prey populations like rodents. When snake populations are reduced due to fear-driven killings, ecosystems suffer as prey species overpopulate, impacting crop health and, consequently, human food resources. This university policy aims to educate on these dynamics, encouraging community members to recognize the valuable role of snakes in biodiversity.

To address the snake-human conflict, Asst. Prof. Dr. Worawitoo Meesook from the Faculty of Science and Technology, alongside Mr. Nattawut Maksri and M.S. Wandee Onnom from the Faculty of Agriculture, have launched a program at Rajamangala University. This initiative includes safely capturing and relocating snakes found in populated campus areas, such as classrooms, bathrooms, and residential zones, back to natural habitats. This approach not only keeps both snakes and people safe but also prevents unnecessary harm to these creatures. By reintroducing snakes into the wild, the team helps restore ecological balance while promoting peaceful coexistence. Educational programs are also part of their efforts, aiming to dispel fears and teach the community about snakes’ ecological importance. This work is a practical application of the university’s biodiversity policy, aiming to foster a respectful understanding of wildlife among students and staff alike.
