The U2T (University to Tambon) project aims to strengthen the connection between universities and local communities by fostering economic development through education and active student involvement. From 2021 to 2023, the Faculty of Science and Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya has collaborated with Kapang Subdistrict on various tourism initiatives, engaging five students directly in the process. One of the standout projects is the promotion of Tham Rad, an impressive limestone cave celebrated for its spectacular scenery formed by unique calcium carbonate structures. Another highlight is Tham Nam Lord, featuring a tranquil water pool encased by limestone hills and a winding water pathway through the cave. These natural wonders not only captivate visitors with their stunning beauty but also present numerous opportunities for recreational water activities. The project emphasizes the rich biodiversity in the area, which is home to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic life, making both Tham Rad and Tham Nam Lord attractive tourist destinations. By promoting these sites, the U2T initiative seeks to bolster the local economy while creating sustainable tourism opportunities that benefit both the community and the environment. Involving students in this project enriches their educational experience and empowers them to contribute to the development of a thriving tourist sector.
The development of tourism projects in Kapang Subdistrict reflects an increasing recognition of the potential advantages of sustainable tourism for local communities. Students participating in the U2T project are encouraged to engage actively in environmental preservation while reaping economic benefits from tourism initiatives. This approach not only highlights the natural attractions of the area but also fosters community participation in tourism management and development. By including local residents and students in the process, the U2T project cultivates a sense of ownership and pride in their natural resources. This collaborative strategy ensures that tourism benefits are equitably shared within the community, creating a win-win scenario for both the economy and the environment. Moreover, the partnership between the university and local government underscores the critical role of academic expertise in addressing practical challenges. Through hands-on research and application, students gain valuable insights and contribute to sustainable tourism practices. As a result, the U2T initiative sets a positive example for similar projects in other regions, demonstrating the power of collaboration between educational institutions and local communities. Ultimately, this project embodies a comprehensive approach to economic development, prioritizing sustainability and the well-being of both students and community members.
