The Faculty of Agriculture at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) has initiated two essential training workshops designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance crop yields in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. On July 5, 2024, a research team partnered with the Agricultural Office of Chang Klang District to conduct a workshop centered on sustainable durian cultivation. This workshop was crucial for local farmers in the Chang Klang Subdistrict, providing them with effective strategies for preventing and managing diseases and pests that threaten durian crops. Participants received valuable, research-based knowledge and practical tools aimed at fostering sustainability, including Bacillus spp. bioproducts to combat root and stem rot, alongside sticky glue traps to manage fruit-boring caterpillars. The training successfully engaged 30 local farmers who were keen to integrate these innovative, environmentally friendly techniques into their farming practices.
Prior to this, on March 31, 2023, a training session focused on sustainable turmeric cultivation was held in Village No. 2, Ron Phibun Subdistrict. Organized by the Faculty of Agriculture in collaboration with Ms. Thitirat Boontem, an Agricultural Officer in Ron Phibun District, this workshop aimed to improve turmeric yield and quality through sustainable water management practices and targeted pest control strategies. Emphasizing the importance of environmentally friendly farming, the program encouraged participants to minimize chemical inputs while still meeting market demands. Like the durian workshop, this session also drew 30 enthusiastic farmers eager to embrace new, sustainable techniques that enhance their agricultural outputs. These training workshops reflect RMUTSV’s dedication to empowering local farmers with knowledge and practical tools that promote sustainable land management and community resilience, ensuring that agricultural practices benefit both the environment and the local economy.
