In Outreach and Engagement, which focuses on driving projects aimed at enabling local communities to adapt and develop grassroots economies, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) has built collaborations with various organizations and communities. These efforts aim to enhance career development, support the transfer of knowledge, and bring innovation to communities in various areas across southern Thailand. The project details are as follows:

1. Promoting Local Community Development in Bannang Pule, Satun Province

One of the key projects undertaken by RUTS is the promotion of livelihood groups in Bannang Pule, Mueang District, Satun Province, with the main objective of supporting career development and enhancing the economic value of local communities. This project was initiated to provide knowledge and consultancy to entrepreneurs in aquaculture, particularly seaweed farmers, mantis shrimp farmers, and sea cucumber farmers. The project focuses on encouraging the local community to produce high-value agricultural products, helping farmers add value to local products, and promoting nutritional development in local foods.

The initiative is led by faculty and experts from the university who offer advice and share relevant knowledge in agriculture and marketing. The RUTS team, headed by Assistant Professor Naret Khwanthong, Deputy Dean of Administration and Planning, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, visited the Bannang Pule community to exchange ideas and provide valuable academic and practical guidance. They emphasize applying research and innovation to production processes and natural resource management. This approach not only increases the community’s income but also fosters economic sustainability.

2. Development of an Automated Feather Algae Farming Project in Satun School

Another significant RUTS initiative that enhances local community engagement through hands-on learning is the development of an automated feather algae farming project. This project is a collaboration between the university and Princess Chulabhorn Science High School in Satun. It aims to support learning and skill development in science and technology (STEM) by integrating the algae farming system into secondary education. Through this initiative, students gain real-life experience in managing automated agricultural farms, equipping them with valuable skills for future careers.

The project team from RUTS, including Assistant Professor Naret Khwanthong, Lecturer Sayamon Phuttamongkol, and Associate Professor Dr. Chutinut Sujarit, visited the school to provide guidance. This project not only enhances students’ knowledge and skills but also fosters community-level innovation, supporting the growth of a sustainable and competitive local economy. The practical learning approach helps prepare young community members with advanced knowledge and skills, promoting sustainable development and economic resilience.

RUTS’s Outreach and Engagement initiatives demonstrate a commitment to benefiting the local community by transferring knowledge and skills from the academic institution to grassroots citizens. This effort not only supports economic and social development within the community but also fosters resilience, enabling the community to adapt to environmental changes effectively.
