The “Plook Pah Ploy Poo Doo Gonggang” project, led by the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya in Songkhla Province, is an initiative designed to engage students in environmental conservation. Spearheaded by social science lecturer Nattawut Eiamnate, the project focuses on hands-on activities such as planting mangrove trees using propagules and releasing blue swimming crabs raised by the Blue Swimming Crab Bank. This unique blend of activities not only fosters awareness of ecological preservation but also helps restore the natural balance of the local mangrove ecosystems. The mangroves provide vital habitats for various marine species, and the release of the crabs helps support the population of this important species in local waters. By integrating students into these conservation efforts, the project aims to instill a deeper understanding of biodiversity and the need for sustainable practices in environmental management.
The event took place on January 22, 2023, in Songkhla Province, where students eagerly participated in the outdoor activities. Many students expressed how much they enjoyed being involved in such meaningful conservation work, highlighting the project’s ability to make environmental issues relatable and engaging for young people. The hands-on experience of planting mangroves and releasing crabs gave them a sense of responsibility for the environment. As they worked together in nature, they developed a stronger bond with their peers and a greater appreciation for the coastal ecosystem. The project also reinforced the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations, allowing students to feel like active contributors to the health of their local environment. This initiative is just one step towards the university’s larger goal of promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students and the wider community.
