On October 27-30, 2023, faculty and students from the Visual Arts Program at the Faculty of Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, collaborated with local artisans and community members in Pak Phanang East, Nakhon Si Thammarat, to design and decorate a royal barge for the annual Royal Barge Contest. Held at Wat Thai Mangkalaram, this event is a highlight of the traditional Royal Barge and Long Boat Racing Festival, organized by Pak Phanang Municipality.

Under the guidance of Dr. Ruenruethai Rodsuwan and Mr. Saroj Meephuak, the team worked alongside local craftsmen to create a stunning barge that showcased intricate designs and cultural artistry. Their collaborative efforts were celebrated as the Wat Thai Mangkalaram barge won the 2nd runner-up prize in this year’s contest. This project not only highlighted the craftsmanship and teamwork of students and faculty but also strengthened ties between the university and the local community, emphasizing the beauty and grandeur of traditional Thai art.

This collaborative project had a significant impact on both the local community and the participants from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya.
