The Faculty of Science and Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya actively contributes to scientific knowledge through its involvement in the Zoology activities of the Sci-Camp projects, which focus on animal diversity. The primary aim of these projects is to educate students on animal taxonomy, the roles of various species in ecological systems, and the importance of conservation. By fostering an understanding of animal classification and ecological functions, the initiative seeks to raise awareness among students regarding the significance of animal conservation. This educational approach not only provides students with valuable information but also encourages them to appreciate the diverse forms of life that share our planet. Ultimately, the program is designed to inspire future generations to advocate for the protection of wildlife and their habitats. Through engaging activities and informative sessions, students learn how animals interact within ecosystems and how their conservation can benefit both nature and humanity. Emphasizing animal diversity helps students understand the interdependence of species and the critical need to preserve biodiversity. Overall, the Zoology activity serve as a vital platform for educating young minds about the importance of wildlife conservation and the role they can play in this effort.
The Zoology activity, Sci-Camp projects are open to schools in the region, providing an inclusive opportunity for students to participate in hands-on learning experiences. Last year, the program included several sessions tailored to different educational levels. On July 5, 2023, high school students from Nabon School engaged in activities designed to broaden their understanding of animal diversity. This was followed by a session on August 4, 2023, for students from Satree Thungsong School, and another on August 5, 2023, for junior high school students from Khunnatham Wittaya School. Finally, on December 21, 2023, junior high school students from Cha-uat Witthayakhom School took part in the program. Each session incorporated interactive elements that encouraged students to explore the unique characteristics of various animals and their ecological significance. The diverse range of schools involved demonstrates the program’s commitment to reaching a wide audience and promoting a collective understanding of animal conservation. By engaging students from different backgrounds, the Zoology activity aim to create a community of informed advocates for wildlife preservation.
Dr. Worawitoo Meesook, a graduate of the Department of Zoology, serves as the main instructor for the Zoology activity, Sci-camp Projects, bringing her expertise in animal diversity and conservation to the forefront of the program. Under her guidance, students express a keen interest in learning about various animal species, their unique characteristics, and their ecological benefits. To enhance the educational experience, the program utilizes preserved animal samples, allowing students to examine physical specimens without harming live animals. Additionally, augmented reality (AR) technology is employed to facilitate frog anatomy studies, providing an innovative way to explore biological structures. This approach significantly reduces the need for live samples while still delivering an engaging and informative experience. The integration of technology and hands-on learning helps capture the students’ attention and enhances their understanding of complex biological concepts. Through these methods, students not only gain knowledge but also develop a sense of responsibility toward animal conservation. The combination of Dr. Meesook’s expertise and the innovative teaching strategies employed in the Sci-Camp projects creates a dynamic learning environment that inspires students to become advocates for the preservation of biodiversity.
