Free Drinking Water Refill Points Rolled Out to Cut Waste at RUTS
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya about 50 free clean drinking water stations throughout the five main campuses, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat (Thung Yai, Sai Yai, and Khanom), and Trang, for students, staff, and visitors, as well as the general public who visit or use university services in order to ensure there is enough drinking water to meet their consumption needs.
To reduce the amount of purchasing drinking water contained in plastic bottles or single-use plastics, providing drinking water filter facilities are needed and it is also our university’s initiative to answer the issues in re-using or reduction of plastic waste. The installation of water filtration systems allows all users to refill bottles, which leads to a reduction of plastic waste. This waste reduction includes not only water bottles but also caps, seals, and plastic labels that accompany bottled water. Also, this is the practical solution which essential to reach all users the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding sugary drinks. This habit-building effect can lead to long-term health benefits.
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya is also aware of the quality of drinking water and has therefore taken measures to clean water filters, inspect and maintain drinking water machines monthly so that all users, especially, students and staff can consume drinking water that is quality in order to prevent waterborne diseases and ensure that everyone on the campus has access to safe and healthy drinking water.
Moreover, providing free drinking water not only makes a healthier choice affordable, but also can be particularly beneficial for students on tight budgets. This helps all students save money and reduce the need to buy bottled water, making the university more accessible to all students. As well as, this helps to enhance the university’s image as an institution that cares about student welfare and environmental impact. Also, it helps attract prospective students who prioritize sustainability and well-being when choosing our university.
