Assistant Professor Dr. Wikit Pinrap, head of the research project from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, stated that the project to restore blue crab resources and strengthen the local economy in the Blue Crab Bank communities along the coasts of Trang and Krabi has been ongoing since 2018. As of now, there are a total of 64 community blue crab banks and 13 learning centers, making a total of 77 locations across 9 districts and 54 communities. The initiative aims to assist communities in generating income and stimulating the economy by promoting community blue crab banks that sell processed blue crab products. This effort has resulted in increased revenue and sales for both the blue crab banks and local fishermen in Trang Province. Successful products from the blue crab network in Trang include steamed blue crabs, blue crab nuggets, blue crab patties, Koh Sukorn blue crab jor, marinated blue crabs, blue crab chili dip, and blue crab fried rice, among others. Leveraging research through collaboration among all sectors to drive and integrate innovations aimed at increasing blue crab resources in Thai waters is critically important. The successful restoration and management of blue crab resources will effectively address local issues, enhance tourism, and promote sustainable conservation of Thai blue crab resources moving forward.
