On Monday, July 10, 2023, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, held an MOU signing ceremony with Thung Song Municipality. The ceremony included the signing of the MOU between Thung Song Municipality and Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, as well as the launch event for the book on birds of Thung Song District.
Professor Dr. Suwat Thanarat, the President of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, has collaborated with Mr. Songchai Wongwatcharadamrong, the Mayor of Thung Song City, to exchange academic knowledge between educational institutions and public and private sector organizations, both domestically and internationally. Additionally, this partnership offers academic services, research, invention creation, and the preservation of art, culture, and the environment to meet the needs of the community and society.
On July 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at the Trang River Basin Water Management Center conference room, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic collaboration with Thung Song Municipality to support the development of Thung Song. The event also included the launch of the book “Birds of Thung Song District.”
Mr. Songchai Wongwacharadumrong, Mayor of Thung Song, and representatives from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, including Associate Professor Somkit Chaiphet, Vice President of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus (acting on behalf of the university president), and Assistant Professor Thammasak Phutthakan, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, were present. Distinguished guests included Mr. Thiranat Esanachartang, District Chief of Thung Song, and Dr. Jamnean Waratchaiphan, Senior Advisor from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The MOU emphasizes collaboration in academic development, personnel training, curriculum production, research, and the advancement of technology and innovation to promote the conservation, restoration, and development of natural resources, ecosystems, cultural heritage, local wisdom, and community lifestyles within a framework of sustainable urban development. It also includes using research findings to support biodiversity conservation of birds in Thung Song through participatory processes. Additionally, the MOU involves creating public communication tools to raise awareness about bird conservation in Thung Song, fostering environmental education for children and youth through a local curriculum.
The event featured the launch of the book “Birds of Thung Song District” by Professor Prasert Nontakan, documenting over 188 bird species found in Thung Song. This initiative aligns with Thung Song’s development policy, which aims to preserve and restore natural environments, enhancing residents’ awareness of the biodiversity within their area, including trees, plants, wildlife, birds, insects, butterflies, and rare bird species. This awareness aims to instill a sense of pride, conservation, and collective responsibility to protect and sustain Thung Song’s natural environment for future generations.
