The Research and Development Institute at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with key partner institutions to enhance laboratory safety standards. This ceremony took place on June 28, 2023, in the Wichairattanakiranawara Meeting Room at Songkhla Rajabhat University. Associate Professor Dr. Laksamee Wittaya, Deputy Director of Research Information Management at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, represented the university’s leadership at this important event. The MOU includes collaboration with Takshin University, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, Walailak University, Surat Thani Rajabhat University, Songkhla Rajabhat University, Hatyai University, and three regional medical science centers: Trang Medical Science Center (Center 12/1), Surat Thani Medical Science Center (Center 11), Phuket Medical Science Center (Center 11/1), and Songkhla Medical Science Center (Center 12). Together, these partners are committed to establishing rigorous safety standards in scientific laboratories, thereby enhancing the safety culture and promoting the well-being of staff and students alike. This collaborative MOU aims to ensure safety protocols are strictly adhered to and are regularly improved through training and shared expertise.
As part of this cooperative effort, laboratory personnel from all participating institutions engaged in an intensive training session on laboratory safety standards. The program, titled “Laboratory Safety Standards,” is the first in a series of initiatives under the 2023 Lead University for Laboratory Safety Standards Project, led by Prince of Songkla University. This project emphasizes a collective approach to developing preventive measures, hazard response, and equipment handling across the nation’s universities. During training, participants learned best practices for managing hazardous materials, maintaining lab equipment, and complying with both national and international safety regulations. The project’s inclusive approach reflects the universities’ dedication to ongoing safety improvements and commitment to a collaborative model for academic and research excellence. Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, with its partner institutions, aims to set a standard of safety for higher education facilities in Thailand, fostering an environment where research can be conducted safely, sustainably, and efficiently.
