Details: On July 10, 2023, Thung Song Municipality held a special event to officially launch the book Birds of Thung Song, authored by Dr. Prasert Nonthakarn, a lecturer from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya. This publication documents the diversity of bird species found in Thung Song, reflecting a year of dedicated field research by Dr. Prasert, who collaborated closely with Thung Song Municipality throughout the project. Dr. Prasert’s research offers a comprehensive overview of local avian species and was designed specifically for beginner birdwatchers, providing an accessible and engaging resource to introduce newcomers to the world of birdwatching. The book presents colorful images and detailed descriptions to help readers identify common and unique bird species in the region. Additionally, this publication reflects Dr. Prasert’s passion for promoting environmental awareness and encouraging community involvement in bird conservation efforts. At the book launch, he shared his vision of raising awareness about the natural beauty of Thung Song’s bird population and the importance of preserving local wildlife.

Alongside the release of his book, Dr. Prasert also introduced the Thung Song Bird Club, which he founded to connect birdwatching enthusiasts in the region and to support ongoing bird conservation efforts. The club’s mission is to monitor bird populations, promote birdwatching, and educate community members on the ecological roles birds play in maintaining a balanced environment. Through club activities such as guided birdwatching events, habitat preservation initiatives, and educational workshops, Dr. Prasert aims to inspire local residents to actively engage in conservation efforts. He believes that fostering a stronger connection to nature will encourage the community to protect these birds and their natural habitats. The club not only serves as a valuable platform for local enthusiasts but also helps spread a message of environmental stewardship across Thung Song. With these initiatives, Dr. Prasert envisions a community united in preserving the region’s ecosystems and cherishing its diverse wildlife for generations to come.
