The Faculty of Science and Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya has been actively involved as a committee member in the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for development plans in Songkhla and Pattani Provinces. This significant project, which began on December 20, 2022, has now reached its 18-month mark. The project aims to assess the environmental impact of various development initiatives in these provinces, ensuring that economic growth is balanced with environmental sustainability. A lecturer from the Department of Science has been assigned to participate in the resource and environment team, playing a crucial role in evaluating environmental concerns. This involvement not only reflects the university’s commitment to regional development but also highlights the importance of integrating academic expertise into policy-making. By collaborating with other stakeholders, the faculty contributes to shaping a future where environmental protection is a key consideration in development efforts. The lecturer’s participation demonstrates the growing role of academia in addressing real-world environmental challenges. This project underscores the need for scientific input in sustainable development practices, especially in areas prone to environmental degradation. Ultimately, the university’s involvement serves as a model for how higher education institutions can contribute to regional development through research and strategic planning.
Several stages have been set up to engage stakeholders from various career fields, allowing them to express their thoughts and concerns about the ongoing development plans. These stages are essential for ensuring that the voices of the community are heard and considered in the strategic planning process. People from diverse backgrounds, such as agriculture, industry, healthcare, and education, are invited to share their perspectives, enriching the overall development plan with insights from different sectors. After gathering comments and feedback from these sessions, the team compiles and summarizes the key points into a comprehensive report. This report becomes a critical tool in the next phase, where the resource and environment team collaborates with other sectors like economics, health, and social welfare to create a holistic development strategy. The inclusion of diverse opinions helps in creating a more balanced and inclusive plan that addresses the needs of the entire population. By fostering open dialogue, the project ensures transparency and public participation, which are crucial for the success of any development plan. The continuous feedback loop between the community and the planning team helps refine the strategic plan, making it more adaptable and responsive to real-time challenges. Through this process, the SEA aims to create a development plan that promotes sustainable growth while safeguarding the environment and improving the quality of life for residents in Songkhla and Pattani.
