Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya recently organized a “Bird Watching Camp,” offering training to students and community members interested in bird conservation. The camp, led by Dr. Prasert Nonthakarn from the Faculty of Science and Technology, was held in collaboration with Thung Song Municipality. Dr. Jumnean Woraratchaiyaphan, a senior advisor for IUCN-Thailand, joined the event, lending his expertise to enhance the educational experience. Over 50 participants attended, engaging in hands-on activities designed to deepen their understanding of bird species commonly found in the region. The training covered essential topics, such as identifying local bird species, recognizing endangered species, and understanding the critical roles birds play in the ecosystem. Participants learned how to properly use binoculars for bird-watching and where to spot specific species in their natural habitats. The event emphasized the importance of conserving bird populations, especially those with vulnerable statuses. Attendees gained practical skills and knowledge to apply in both recreational bird-watching and community conservation efforts.
The “Bird Watching Camp” also highlighted the university’s dedication to promoting environmental awareness and wildlife conservation. Through interactive sessions, Dr. Prasert Nonthakarn and Dr. Jumnean Woraratchaiyaphan shared valuable insights on sustainable practices and encouraged participants to take an active role in protecting bird habitats. This initiative aligns with Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya’s broader commitment to community engagement and ecological education. By involving students and local residents, the camp strengthened the connection between academic learning and practical conservation efforts. Participants left with a better appreciation of birds’ significance in maintaining ecological balance and were motivated to contribute to conservation activities. This successful event showcases the university’s proactive approach to environmental education, aiming to inspire lasting community involvement. The collaborative effort between the university, Thung Song Municipality, and IUCN-Thailand further underscored the importance of joint initiatives in achieving conservation goals. The camp not only imparted skills but also nurtured a shared responsibility for protecting local wildlife and ecosystems.
