The Faculty of Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) organized the project 3D Virtual Urban Environment Model, as part of the Culture Smart City: Songkhla Old Town Development Project.

The activity was conducted to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother for Her lifelong contribution to the preservation of Thai arts, crafts, and cultural identity.
The project aimed to develop a new model of cultural learning and creative tourism by simulating Songkhla Old Town in a three-dimensional virtual environment. Through digital innovation, the virtual model recreated key cultural landmarks and historic architecture, enabling the public to explore the city’s cultural identity, local crafts, and urban character through immersive technology.

The activity was led and advised by a team of experts from the Faculty of Architecture, including Asst. Prof. Surawat Mookem, Lecturer Jameekorn Malison, Asst. Prof. Worasuda Kwansuwan, and Lecturer Phimphat Phuthong-Rittidet. Their collaboration ensured a balance between architectural accuracy, cultural depth, and technological innovation in every stage of the project.

The initiative also emphasized community engagement by involving local residents, students, and relevant agencies in the process of designing and developing the 3D city model. The project served as a platform for academic–community collaboration, combining architecture, culture, and creative digital media to promote Songkhla as a model city for arts, culture, and sustainable creative tourism.

The project enhances free and open access to cultural heritage and information by creating digital archives and 3D models of Songkhla Old Town, enabling everyone to learn about its architecture, history, and traditions in a virtual space. By transforming Songkhla Old Town into a virtual creative city, the project expands cultural accessibility beyond physical boundaries, encouraging inclusive participation and creative exploration in both real and digital environments. Through advanced 3D documentation and virtual visualization, the initiative supports the preservation and revitalization of tangible and intangible heritage, ensuring that Songkhla’s local wisdom, crafts, and traditional architecture are digitally recorded and passed on to future generations. Moreover, the project builds collaboration between universities, communities, and creative industries, fostering regional cultural connections and promoting the BCG (Bio–Circular–Green) Economic Model as a foundation for sustainable development.
