On June 14, 2024, at Kanittha Cake Meeting Room, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) joined forces with seven other higher education institutions in Southern Thailand and three private sector organizations to conduct a collaborative research meeting aimed at formulating evidence-based strategies for sustainable tourism development in Trang Province. The session, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Sitthisak Chanthrioyong, Deputy Director of RUTS Trang Campus, brought together academic leaders, researchers, and industry representatives to exchange data, discuss policy frameworks, and co-design research directions supporting inclusive local economic growth.

The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to research and innovation for poverty alleviation through the tourism economy. By utilizing applied research, knowledge transfer, and participatory innovation, the consortium seeks to create a comprehensive tourism development model that empowers local entrepreneurs and strengthens community resilience. The focus lies on integrating socio-economic data analysis, sustainability indicators, and policy-driven research to ensure that tourism growth directly benefits low-income groups and reduces regional inequality.

Furthermore, outcomes from this collaborative research will inform local and regional policy recommendations, supporting evidence-based decision-making for government and private stakeholders. The meeting also set a foundation for long-term joint research projects, innovation grants, and pilot studies to measure the social and financial impacts of community-based tourism initiatives. This effort strongly aligns with SDG 1.4.1, by promoting knowledge-driven community empowerment for sustainable livelihoods, and SDG 1.4.4, through research participation in policy formulation that advances equitable access to economic opportunities. Through this integrated research partnership, RUTS and its academic network reaffirm their role as catalysts for innovation that translates knowledge into action—building inclusive, sustainable economies for the people of Trang Province and beyond.
