On June 14, 2024, at Kanittha Cake Meeting Room in Trang Province, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) together with seven other higher education institutions in Southern Thailand and three private sector organizations convened a regional meeting to discuss strategic directions for tourism development in Trang. The meeting, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Sitthisak Chanthrioyong, Deputy Director of the Trang Campus, brought together executives, academics, and community representatives to share insights and identify common goals for promoting local tourism as a driving force for regional economic and social sustainability.
This collaboration represents a key example of Outreach and Engagement, fostering a strong partnership between academia, private enterprises, and local government agencies. The participants emphasized the importance of integrating local wisdom, cultural identity, and sustainable resource management into community-based tourism initiatives. By enhancing local capacities and encouraging inclusive participation, the project aims to empower communities to create financially and socially sustainable businesses, thereby reducing poverty and inequality in access to economic opportunities.
Moreover, the outcomes of this meeting are expected to contribute to the formulation of local tourism development policies that align with both provincial and national sustainable development strategies. The initiative demonstrates the university sector’s active involvement in SDG 1.4.1—supporting communities in establishing sustainable livelihoods—and SDG 1.4.4—participating in local policy frameworks that promote equitable economic development. Through such collaborations, RMUTSV and its partners reaffirm their commitment to driving inclusive growth and building resilient communities under the Sustainable Development Goals framework.
