On 19 February 2024, the Faculty of Agro-Industry, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), in collaboration with the agricultural team of Thi Wang Subdistrict, Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, organized a practical training workshop on catfish processing and product development for the Thi Wang Subdistrict Community Enterprise Group. The workshop was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirinat Srionual, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saowanee Chaipech, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanikan Thorasin, Asst. Prof. Dr. Supasit Chooklin, and Dr. Sutasinee Thongnok. The training focused on enhancing community skills in food processing, improving taste, quality, hygiene, and safety standards, and creating added value from local resources. The activity primarily targeted elderly participants and unemployed members, providing them with the opportunity to develop professional skills and generate sustainable income through local product innovation.
Impact Result :
The workshop enhanced the knowledge and practical skills of elderly and unemployed participants, enabling them to produce safe, high-quality, and value-added catfish products. By transferring university research and expertise to the community, the activity promoted local entrepreneurship, created income opportunities, and fostered lifelong learning beyond the campus—demonstrating RUTS’s commitment to inclusive education and sustainable community development in line with SDG 4.
This initiative reflects the university’s role as a “University for the Community”, emphasizing the transfer of knowledge from higher education institutions to local communities, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on promoting lifelong learning opportunities and equitable access to quality education.
