On November 15, 2024, representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) visited the Faculty of Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) to present certificates of achievement to students who won the “Songkhla Tourism for All” Inclusive Design Competition.

This competition aimed to promote universal design principles for renovating and improving buildings to ensure accessibility and usability for people of all ages and abilities, in alignment with sustainable tourism goals. The project was a collaborative initiative between UNDP, DASTA, the Faculty of Architecture (RUTS), and local entrepreneurs in Songkhla Old Town, under the framework of inclusive and sustainable urban development.


A total of eight student teams participated in the competition, with four teams advancing to the final round. Each finalist team received a scholarship grant of 4,000 THB, jointly funded by UNDP and local business operators, as recognition of their creativity and effort in designing accessible spaces for the community.

During the award ceremony, representatives from UNDP were warmly welcomed by Asst. Prof. Narawat Lertwittayawiwat, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tatchaya Sangkakool (Deputy Dean for Academic and Research Affairs), Dr. Jare Suwannachat, and Lecturer Tasnawan Thongaon, who also serve as members of the SDG 11 Committee of the faculty.

The event also acknowledged the support and guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Piyaporn Oramut, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, along with course instructors from the Architecture Design and Drawing programs, including Dr. Jila Kaewphraek, Lecturer Piyaporn Thuekkitjanong, Lecturer Nattarada Boonthad, and Lecturer Nontas Pakman from the Urban Planning Program, who integrated their courses to encourage students’ participation in the project.

Special appreciation was extended to Assoc. Prof. Trirat Jarutach and the Architect Council of Thailand (Taksin Chapter), as well as the Songkhla Provincial Association of Persons with Disabilities, for serving as guest coaches and expert mentors, helping students refine their design concepts to meet real-world accessibility standards.
