Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Tourism Development and Curriculum Enhancement

On November 13, 2024, Prof. Dr. Suwat Tanyaros, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, along with Dr. Panumas Suybangdam, Vice President, Asst. Prof. Supaporn Chaiyarat, Dean of Faculty of Management Technology, Asst. Prof. Chainan Panyavuttho, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, Lecturer Tamonlachonok Khongkhwan, Director of Ratpoom College, and Asst. Prof. Fapilai Taweesinsopa, Director of College of Hospitality and Tourism, participated in strategic discussions with the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) to establish educational collaboration frameworks for developing human resources with knowledge, capabilities, and professional skills that support sustainable tourism development. The consultation addressed goals and models for tourism workforce development, with DASTA serving as a mentor in curriculum development and personnel upgrading strategies to develop tourism destinations in the region as nationally and internationally standardized sustainable tourism sites. Dr. Chuwit Mitchop, Deputy Director of DASTA, shared knowledge about sustainable tourism development initiatives including implementation of Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria, elevation of tourism destinations to international standards such as Top 100 awards, and advancement of cities toward UNESCO Creative Cities Network membership. For fiscal year 2025, DASTA Songkhla Lake Basin plans collaborative projects with RUTS including plastic waste processing development to expand product innovation from equipment produced under the circular economy-based plastic waste processing learning center, and advancement of Samila-Chalatat Beach toward international standard tourism destination certification. This strategic partnership establishes systematic frameworks for curriculum development that integrate sustainable land management principles into hospitality and tourism education programs. The collaboration creates experiential learning opportunities where students and faculty engage with real-world sustainable tourism challenges and solutions. Through this partnership, the university strengthens its capacity to produce graduates equipped with competencies in environmental stewardship, sustainable resource management, and responsible tourism practices that minimize negative environmental impacts while maximizing socio-economic benefits for local communities.
