More than 200 participants, including local officials, organizations, and community members, joined the event. The initiative involved the release of 7 million juvenile blue swimming crabs (Portunus pelagicus) into the natural coastal environment of Khanom.
The objective was to:
- Enhance the population of blue swimming crabs, a key marine resource for local fisheries.
- Promote community awareness on coastal resource conservation and sustainable fisheries.
- Strengthen the livelihoods of small-scale fishers and coastal communities.
- Build long-term partnerships between the university, private sector, government agencies, and the community to support sustainable local food systems.
The “Blue Swimming Crab Release Project 2024” is a strong example of how Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya supports local farmers and food producers by contributing to sustainable marine resource management. Through collaboration with public and private sector partners, the release of 7 million juvenile crabs not only supports the preservation of marine biodiversity but also helps secure the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
