The announcement from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya on sustainable consumption and production since A.D.2022.

Evidence I Ethical sourcing as a pathway to sustainable Thai Pepper development

The collaboration among the nine Rajamangala Universities of Technology (RMUTs) under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU-A) marks a pivotal step in driving area-based development through the application of academic knowledge and research-based innovations for real community benefit. The initiative aims to strengthen grassroots economies, fostering resilience and sustainable self-reliance. A notable example is the Pepper Research Unit of Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, which has successfully applied appropriate technologies throughout the entire supply chain of Trang pepper from upstream production and midstream processing to downstream marketing on both domestically and internationally. This approach is directly aligned with the concept of “Ethical Sourcing of Pepper,” as community-based production and management emphasize improved product quality, transparency, fairness, and responsibility toward society and the environment. Ethical sourcing practices ensure that farmers receive fair compensation, reduce exploitation within the supply chain, and encourage the sustainable use of resources. Furthermore, this approach plays a vital role in strengthening the global image of Thai pepper as a product that embodies high standards, superior quality, and ethical value in perfect balance.

Evidence II: Enhancing fishery value chains through ethical and hygienic processing

The research project titled “Participatory Research and Development for Sustainable Community Enterprise Enhancement in Songkhla Province,” conducted by researchers from Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTs) and supported by the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU-A), is closely aligned with the concept of ethical community-based fishery product processing. The project emphasizes improving the livelihoods of local fishermen while upholding principles of responsibility toward consumers and the environment. It has transformed traditional practices by guiding fishermen toward safe, standardized, and value-added fish processing through the adoption of appropriate technologies such as solar-powered dryers and fish-cutting machines. These innovations have enhanced product hygiene, reduced contamination, and increased production efficiency and value.
