At the Mouse & Cat Sculpture Plaza behind Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) on Chala Thad Road, Mueang District, Songkhla, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tachaya Sangkakool (Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research), together with faculty members and students of the Faculty of Architecture, attended the opening ceremony of the 2024
“Lan Sang Dao (Starlight Plaza) Mouse & Cat Sculpture.” The event was presided over by Mr. Amnuay Pinsuwan, Deputy Governor of Songkhla, and joined by Mr.Rangsee Rattanaprakan, President of the Songkhla Lovers Association, Asst. Prof. Udon Namsen, Vice President of RUTS, executives from Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, representatives from the Provincial Energy Office, and partner organizations.

Organized by the Songkhla Lovers Association with support from partner networks and Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, the program included the annual repainting and maintenance of the Mouse & Cat sculptures (representing Tao Kua and Som Nod)
for 2024, introducing a new surface pattern under the concept “White and Blue : Dragon Zodiac.” The initiative promotes Songkhla’s tourism by strengthening this landmark
as a check-in photo spot and by offering an aesthetic public experience through visual art uniting support from public and private sectors and local communities to develop the area as a creative tourism destination.

The Mouse & Cat sculptures were designed by a team of lecturers from the Visual Arts Program and alumni of the Art and Design Program, Faculty of Architecture, RUTS,
with support from RUTS and Chevron. The collaborative effort aims to stimulate
the grassroots economy and promote local tourism.

In addition to the Mouse & Cat pieces, a dragon-shaped metal-frame sculpture
was created, clad with paper plates on the exterior. Government executives, members of
the Songkhla Lovers Association, private-sector partners, faculty, school pupils, and university students joined in painting and decorating the dragon turning the plaza into
a participatory learning space for youth and residents, and adding another key landmark to welcome visitors to Songkhla in the Year of the Dragon.
