Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) has established around 50 free, clean drinking water stations across its five main campuses—Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat (Thung Yai, Sai Yai, and Khanom), and Trang. These stations are provided for students, staff, visitors, and members of the local community who visit or use university services, ensuring that everyone has access to sufficient and safe drinking water to meet their daily needs.
To further reduce the use of bottled water and single-use plastics, RUTS has installed water filtration systems that allow all users to conveniently refill their reusable bottles. This initiative not only decreases plastic waste—including bottles, caps, seals, and labels—but also encourages healthy hydration habits while discouraging the consumption of sugary beverages. The university views this as a practical and sustainable solution that benefits both the environment and community well-being.
RUTS is also deeply committed to maintaining high water quality. The university conducts regular monthly inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of all water filtration and dispenser units to ensure that the drinking water provided is clean, safe, and free from contaminants. This careful management helps prevent waterborne diseases and supports the health of students, staff, and visitors alike.
Recognizing the positive response to this initiative, RUTS continues to expand and add more free drinking water stations across all campuses. In addition, the university has developed a new feature within the RUTS mobile application, allowing students and staff to easily locate the nearest free drinking water points. This digital tool supports convenience, promotes the use of refillable bottles, and helps integrate sustainability into daily campus life.
To extend this initiative beyond the university community, RUTS has also launched an awareness campaign by displaying banners and digital advertisements on monitors at the university entrances. These displays highlight the locations of free drinking water stations, inviting nearby residents and the general public to bring their reusable bottles and access clean drinking water for free.
Providing free drinking water not only supports sustainable and environmentally responsible practices but also promotes health, affordability, and inclusivity. This initiative reflects RUTS’s ongoing commitment to student welfare, community engagement, and environmental stewardship—strengthening the university’s image as a forward-thinking institution that values sustainability and well-being.
Don’t forget to make the most of the free drinking water stations and stay hydrated sustainably with RUTS!
