On 17 September 2024, the College of Hospitality and Tourism, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV), organized a key learning activity to evaluate and enhance hotel management standards in accordance with the Green Hotel criteria. The activity was held at Dugong Village Hotel and at the College of Hospitality and Tourism in Trang Province, under the supervision of Lecturer Chantiwan Samathi, Project Coordinator. The opening ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Sukphitchayan Boonkuea, Deputy Director for Academic and Research Affairs, representing Asst. Prof. Fahpilai Thaveesinsopa, Director of the College.

The project focused on developing environmentally responsible and socially just hotel management through participatory learning processes that connect students, faculty members, government agencies, and local business operators. The initiative served as a mechanism for community-based dialogue and collaborative problem-solving within the tourism sector, promoting shared understanding and peaceful cooperation among stakeholders.

Key activities included a seminar on “Guidelines for Developing Accommodation under the Green Hotel Standard” and on-site hotel assessments based on criteria such as environmental policy, human resource development, waste management, and sustainable resource use. These activities enabled students to practice negotiation and consensus-building skills, bridging differences between economic and environmental priorities through knowledge-based dialogue.

The program was implemented in collaboration with key provincial organizations—including the Office of Natural Resources and Environment, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports—as well as local hotel managers certified under the Green Hotel Standard. Together, they served as a learning network and local negotiation mechanism, promoting sustainable tourism and reducing potential conflicts between business and community interests. The initiative also supported the development of Rajamangala Trang Resort toward full Green Hotel certification, enhancing its competitiveness and responsiveness to the global trend of eco-friendly tourism.
