On 1 September 2024, Dr. Nawattakorn Umasilp, a lecturer in the Fashion and Textile Design Program, served as a speaker and co-researcher in a project activity promoting natural dyeing to create new opportunities for the community in Rom Sai Subdistrict, Sukhirin District, Narathiwat Province.

Supported by the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC),
the project aims to strengthen the Subdistrict Peace Council and drive area-based development toward security, prosperity, and sustainability.

Highlights of the activity comprised two main parts

  1. Tie-technique workshop Participants learned various tying methods to create distinctive textile patterns.
  2. Natural dyeing workshop Local residents learned how to extract color from locally sourced natural materials and apply techniques to achieve beautiful, lasting hues.

The workshop was led by Dr. Nawattakorn Umasilp, a natural dye expert from
the Faculty of Architecture, RUTS, together with textile enterprise teams including the Armina Batik Group and the Nara Pim Bai Group.

Mr. Jedullor Mamoo, Deputy Chief Executive of the Rom Sai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, along with community leaders, expressed gratitude to SBPAC for its support and voiced hope that similar projects will continue, contributing to long-term improvements in community quality of life.
