Covered Walkways at RMUTSV Songkhla Campus
The Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV), Songkhla Campus, has strategically implemented a network of covered walkways connecting its buildings. This infrastructure is designed to enhance pedestrian accessibility and comfort for both staff and students.
Key Functions and Benefits:
- Weather Protection: The covered paths provide essential shade and shelter from the sun as well as protection from the rain, ensuring continuous and comfortable movement throughout the campus regardless of weather conditions.
- Enhanced Connectivity and Efficiency: By linking different academic buildings and faculties, these walkways facilitate convenient passage and reduce travel time between classes or departments for students and personnel.
- Accessibility and Inclusivity: The design of the covered walkways incorporates features that ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities or the elderly. They are characterized by:
- Level Pathways (or ramps where necessary)
- Smooth Surfaces
- The absence of obstacles, thus supporting the mobility of wheelchair users and those with other movement challenges.

Figure 4-6 illustrates the interconnected walkway system within the university campus. The image specifically shows a continuous link leading to the access ramp which provides entry into the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Industrial Education, among other faculties throughout the Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV), Songkhla Campus.

In the construction of new academic buildings, RMUTSV Songkhla Campus adheres strictly to the gradient specifications for access ramps as mandated by the Building Control Act. This adherence ensures that the pathways and building entries are accessible to all age groups and users.
Furthermore, in addition to the use of ramps, the university has equipped its buildings with elevators (lifts) for the convenience of both personnel and students. Notably, these lifts are designated as accessible lifts, incorporating specific functions and features to serve individuals with disabilities, thereby solidifying the university’s commitment to providing a fully inclusive and accessible environment.
