Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), through the Faculty of Agro-Industry research team led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Saichai Kaew-on, Head of the Sub-Project “Development of Sago Flour Products in Phatthalung Province for Value Addition and Commercialization,” in collaboration with Asst. Prof. Kloyjai Krutjon, Head of the Research Project “Development and Innovation of Sago Products in Phatthalung Province for Commercialization,” and supported by the Science, Research and Innovation Promotion Fund (FY 2023), conducted an outreach research activity with the Ban Bon Huai Mak Sago Flour Community Enterprise in Phatthalung Province on 12 February 2024. With guidance from Assoc. Prof. Panom Intharit and Asst. Prof. Pakamart Purinthrapibal as project advisors, the research team worked closely with community members to co-develop innovations that enhanced the production process, improved product quality, and ensured compliance with national food safety standards.

Impact Result:
The research achieved tangible outcomes in the dimension of Research and Innovation under SDG 4 (Education Outreach Activities Beyond Campus). First, it successfully integrated academic expertise, scientific knowledge, and modern technology into local production, resulting in the first-ever Thai FDA regulatory approval for both powdered and pellet sago flour products in Thailand—a groundbreaking milestone for community-based enterprises. Second, this achievement empowered local producers with technical knowledge and innovation skills, enabling them to elevate product standards, expand market access, and increase household income. Third, the project strengthened university-community collaboration by transforming research activities into participatory learning experiences where local stakeholders engaged directly in problem-solving, process design, and product innovation. Finally, it demonstrated how applied research can translate into real-world socioeconomic benefits, promoting sustainable growth while creating a model for lifelong learning through knowledge transfer and innovation diffusion beyond the university campus.

This initiative illustrates how RUTS harnesses research and innovation as catalysts for inclusive education, community empowerment, and sustainable development, aligning with the vision of SDG 4 to ensure lifelong learning opportunities for all.
