Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) hosted the Appropriate Technology Symposium 2024: “Appropriate Technology for Sustainable Living” as part of its commitment to extend academic collaboration and innovation to society. The event brought together representatives from nine RMUT universities, researchers, entrepreneurs, and community members to exchange ideas and showcase technologies that improve quality of life and promote sustainable community development.
This initiative embodies the essence of Outreach and Engagement, fostering partnerships between the university and local communities to co-create practical solutions that address real societal needs. Through exhibitions, demonstrations, and dialogue sessions, the symposium enabled participants to explore appropriate technologies that enhance income generation, reduce inequality, and support environmental balance.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 1.4.1, 1.4.3, and 1.4.4), the program provided opportunities for communities to access technological knowledge and resources for sustainable livelihoods (SDG 1.4.1), improved accessibility to essential learning and innovation services (SDG 1.4.3), and contributed to regional and national policy collaboration toward poverty alleviation and inclusive growth (SDG 1.4.4). Through this engagement, RUTS demonstrates how higher education can serve as a bridge between research, innovation, and community empowerment for long-term sustainability.
