Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) recognizes the urgent need for global action to address climate change and its far-reaching impacts on ecosystems, communities, and future generations. As an institution committed to sustainable development, environmental responsibility, and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), RUTS continues to take decisive steps to ensure that its financial practices reflect and reinforce its academic values, research priorities, and long-term sustainability vision.
One of the core components of this commitment is the University’s Policy on Divesting from Carbon-Intensive Industries. This policy outlines RUTS’s strategic decision to reduce and ultimately eliminate financial investments in industries that significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, environmental degradation, and the acceleration of climate-related risks. These carbon-intensive sectors typically include coal mining and coal power generation, oil and gas extraction, petroleum refining, and other activities associated with the heavy and unsustainable use of fossil fuels.
By adopting this policy, RUTS aims to ensure that its financial resources are allocated in ways that promote environmental stewardship and support the transition to cleaner, renewable forms of energy. The policy reflects the University’s belief that higher education institutions should not only conduct research and teaching that support sustainability but also model responsible investment behavior and institutional governance.
