RUTS has dedicated outreach educational activities for the wider community which include alumni, local residents, displaced people.
Firstly, the shortage of oyster seed results from declining natural stocks, unable to meet demand and driving up prices Hatchery-based breeding offers a sustainable solution through controlled high-quality production.
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) is working to promote sustainable aquaculture practices within local communities. At the Faculty of Science and Technology of Fisheries, Trang Campus, RUTS produces high-quality oyster seed in hatcheries and shares these production models with local farmers to support oyster cultivation and strengthen their technical skills.
Assistant Professor Dr. Supatcha Chooseangjaew, a lecturer at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), led a project titled “Technology Transfer for Quality and Safety Enhancement in the Production of Oysters (Crassostrea belcheri) for a High-Value Economy by Coastal Farmers in Trang Province”. On 9 July, 2024, a hands-on workshop on oyster breeding in hatcheries and earthen ponds was conducted at the Oyster Research Unit, Faculty of Science and Technology of Fisheries, RUTS Trang Campus.
The program also included knowledge-sharing activities and skill training on 26 June 2024 for local oyster farmers in Ban Bang Kang khao community, Khao Mai Kaeo Subdistrict, Sikao District, Trang Province.
