On September 18, 2024, representatives from the Office of Innovation Management and Technology Transfer, RUTS, led by Assoc. Prof. Worapong Boonchuaytan, participated in the “Hae Marap Kham Lesap: Heritage of Wisdom” festival – an annual cultural celebration of the Sart Duan Sib (Tenth Lunar Month Merit-Making Festival) in Songkhla.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Thaksin Folklore Institute, Ko Yo Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Songkhla Provincial Cultural Office, Prince of Songkla University, and multiple community partners. The activity aimed to preserve and promote Songkhla’s traditional “Hae Marap” procession – a symbolic merit-making ritual performed across the Songkhla Lake – honoring ancestors and strengthening community bonds through intergenerational participation.
The festival began with a ceremonial procession of decorated “Marap” offerings, featuring tram parades starting from the General Prem Tinsulanonda Historical Park to Khum Sai Ngam, and culminating at Wat Laem Pho, where the Venerable Phra Khru Watee Thammaviphat, Abbot of Wat Laem Pho, presided over the religious ceremony.
This event represents a living expression of southern Thai cultural identity and collective memory, contributing to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage through community engagement, cultural education, and inter-organizational collaboration.
