From May 2 to 6, 2024, the Office of Innovation Management and Technology Transfer, RUTS, participated in the “Himpun Budaya” cultural festival held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, Malaysia. The event, organized by Dewan Budaya USM, served as an international platform for cultural collaboration, featuring workshops, performances, and traditional art showcases from Malaysia, Thailand, and other ASEAN partners.

RUTS representatives took part in the Traditional Music Workshop (Music Asli and Keroncong) and performed Southern Thai folk arts, including Nora, Mayong, and Kumpang music, alongside Malaysian performers of Sapin and other traditional genres. The event also featured folk games, craft exhibitions, poetry recitals (Pantun), and performances by students and members of the Dewan Budaya Network.

This participation not only fostered cultural exchange and mutual learning but also encouraged the creation and adaptation of new traditional music and performance works that maintain cultural integrity while reflecting modern creativity. It reinforced the importance of preserving Southeast Asian cultural identities through cross-border collaboration and educational engagement.

This initiative exemplifies RUTS’s regional leadership in cultural innovation and cross-border collaboration. Through its participation in Himpun Budaya 2024, RUTS demonstrated the power of music and performance as tools for cultural diplomacy, advancing the preservation and modernization of folk traditions while fostering sustainable cultural exchange between Thailand and Malaysia.
