In 2024, RUTS collaborated with University in Malaysia as Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia to focus on how universities can collaborate and review action to build best practice to relate to SDG 1 to 17. For instance, during 14-17 August 2024, the RUTS & UniMAP Smart Farm Camp 2024 was a collaborative academic and cultural exchange program jointly organised by Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), Thailand, and the University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia. The event was hosted by RUTS Rattaphum College. The camp aimed to enhance students’ competencies in smart agriculture, sustainable technology, and innovation-based farming practices aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The camp brought together 70 participants including students and lecturers from both universities to engage in hands-on learning, innovation workshops, and cross-cultural collaboration. The program integrated modern agricultural technologies such as IoT-based monitoring systems, hydroponics, precision farming, and data-driven crop management, allowing participants to experience how digital transformation can improve agricultural productivity and sustainability. The initiative emphasised the practical application of sustainable agricultural principles through fieldwork, seminars, and joint project development. Students collaborated on designing smart farm prototypes that addressed issues like water efficiency, renewable energy use, and environmental monitoring — directly contributing to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Moreover, the camp strengthened academic linkages between RUTS and UniMAP, promoting international collaboration in agricultural education and research. It encouraged participants to adopt entrepreneurial mindsets, explore innovative agribusiness solutions, and appreciate the importance of sustainability in regional development. In conclusion, through experiential learning and cross-border teamwork, the RUTS & UniMAP Smart Farm Camp 2024 succeeded in developing participants’ technical, leadership, and intercultural skills, contributing to the creation of a new generation of smart farmers and sustainable innovators in ASEAN.
