The Faculty of Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), together with partner institutions from southern Thailand, organized the “Sand Art: Seamila Sand Walk” event at Chalathat Beach, Songkhla between October 25–27, 2024.
This creative collaboration brought together lecturers and students from the Visual Arts Program, RUTS, the Applied Arts Design Program, PSU Pattani, and the Visual Arts Program, Songkhla Rajabhat University, in an effort to create large-scale sand sculptures and environmental artworks that celebrate local identity and coastal culture.

The activity was part of the Seamila Sand Walk Festival, a regional creative event promoting Songkhla’s coastal area as a space for art, culture, and community engagement. Through the integration of artistic creativity, landscape appreciation, and environmental awareness, the project provided an opportunity for students and local participants to work collaboratively, express cultural identity, and revitalize the beach area as a public creative space for all.

As a faculty that produces creative practitioners across disciplines-Architecture, Urban Planning, Visual Arts, and Fashion & Textile Design-the Faculty of Architecture at RUTS emphasizes community engagement through design and art-based learning. This project demonstrated how creative arts can enhance local tourism, inspire environmental stewardship, and strengthen cultural continuity within Songkhla’s coastal context.

The “Sand Art: Seamila Sand Walk” project illustrates the power of collaborative art and education in promoting sustainable coastal development. It enhances public engagement with natural and cultural spaces, strengthens artistic and heritage-based community identity, and contributes to cultural preservation and creative tourism. Through creative cooperation among universities and communities, this initiative highlights Songkhla’s transformation into a model creative city where art, environment, and education converge for sustainable and inclusive growth.
