The Faculty of Architecture, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) organized Activity 7: “Songkhla Art & Culture Creative Festival – 100 Light (Horay-Hrai)” under the Culture Smart City: Songkhla Old Town Project. The opening ceremony, held on August 23, 2024, at Ban Praphai on Ngu Chik Road, was presided over by Mr. Mahama Peesakree Wamae, Deputy Governor of Songkhla Province, with Asst. Prof. Piya Prasongchan, Vice President of RUTS, faculty executives, government representatives, students, and the local community in attendance.
This event served as a cultural and creative performance festival, blending art exhibitions, design showcases, and live performances that highlighted Songkhla’s local identity, multicultural heritage, and creative urban life. The performances included traditional southern Thai music and dance, contemporary cultural performance, and artistic light shows, creating a dynamic fusion between traditional heritage and modern creativity.
The festival was part of RUTS’s initiative to support the development of Songkhla Old Town as a model cultural city, driving urban revitalization through art, design, and community participation. It also honored Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on the auspicious occasion of Her 90th Birthday Anniversary, by celebrating Thai craftsmanship and cultural heritage through public art and creative expression.

The overarching goal of the project was to elevate local businesses and creative industries based on Songkhla’s cultural assets, while fostering public participation and cultural pride among residents and students.

As a university deeply rooted in the Songkhla community, the Faculty of Architecture, RMUTSV plays a key role in connecting academic knowledge, cultural design, and creative economy development, supported by government funding for this major cultural initiative.

The “Songkhla Art & Culture Creative Festival – 100 Light” demonstrated how art, design, and performance can serve as powerful tools for cultural preservation and urban development. By merging traditional and contemporary expressions, the festival fostered creative dialogue between the past and present, reinforcing Songkhla’s vision as a Culture Smart City.
This initiative contributes directly to Sustainable Cities and Communities, showcasing the role of universities in driving inclusive, culture-based, and creative urban regeneration.
