Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV) has demonstrated strong leadership in applying institutional policy and sustainable operations to uplift local livelihoods through the “Song-Lae Pier” initiative in Songkhla Province. The project exemplifies how higher-education institutions can embed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university management, focusing on poverty reduction through innovation-driven economic development.
RMUTSV has incorporated community-oriented research and coastal innovation into its strategic policy framework under the university’s Sustainable Development Plan 2025. The Song-Lae Pier project reflects the university’s policy of promoting inclusive growth and equitable access to resources. By developing infrastructure that supports marine tourism and community-based entrepreneurship, the university ensures that its research outcomes contribute directly to local economic systems.
Institutional policy encourages collaboration among academic departments, government agencies, and community leaders to expand the benefits of the pier to nearby villages. The operation model integrates academic knowledge, green technology, and local governance mechanisms—ensuring that the project becomes a sustainable, community-managed resource rather than a temporary intervention.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwitch Thanyasiri, Assistant to the President of RMUTSV, stated that the Song-Lae Pier initiative represents how university policy can transform research and innovation into tangible social impact.
The approach aligns with SDG 1: No Poverty, particularly targets 1.4.1 and 1.4.4, by institutionalizing frameworks that promote inclusive participation, empower local communities, and support poverty-reduction policies at regional and provincial levels.
Through the Song-Lae Pier project, RMUTSV demonstrates its commitment to operating as a policy-driven university for sustainable development, one that uses evidence-based management and local partnerships to achieve long-term socio-economic resilience.
