Details:
Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, organized the “Thungyai Agriculture Fair 2024” from January 26 to February 4, 2024, under the theme “Agriculture and Food for the Future.” The fair was designed as an open public learning platform that connected university experts, researchers, students, farmers, and community members in the shared mission of advancing agricultural knowledge, food innovation, and sustainable practices. Activities included academic seminars on agricultural sciences, product and innovation competitions, youth academic contests, live demonstrations of agricultural and food-technology innovations, Field Day knowledge-transfer sessions for the new planting season, and exhibitions highlighting Thai herbal medicine and local health wisdom.
The event embodied the university’s role as a “University for the Community,” serving as a knowledge bridge between academia and the public and promoting active engagement across generations. Participants were not passive attendees but co-learners in a dynamic exchange of ideas and practices aimed at improving agricultural productivity and community well-being.
Impact Result:
The fair generated tangible, multi-level outcomes that align with the outreach and engagement dimension of SDG 4 (Public Event – Lifelong Learning). First, it expanded access to practical agricultural knowledge for more than 10,000 participants, including students, farmers, and the general public, who engaged directly with researchers and innovators, enhancing real-world understanding and application of science and technology. Second, it strengthened community-university collaboration, creating new learning partnerships that continue beyond the event through follow-up training, workshops, and joint research initiatives. Third, it stimulated intergenerational learning and skill development, encouraging youth to pursue agricultural innovation while empowering older farmers to adopt modern, sustainable techniques. Finally, it positioned RUTS as a regional hub for lifelong learning and sustainable agriculture, demonstrating how higher education institutions can transform public fairs into inclusive educational spaces that empower individuals and communities alike.
Through this large-scale public event, RUTS effectively translated research and academic expertise into accessible, hands-on learning experiences—fostering lifelong learning, community resilience, and inclusive knowledge exchange in direct support of SDG 4’s mission to provide equitable education and continuous learning opportunities for all.
