Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanakorn Damsud, a lecturer in the Department of Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), has pioneered the development of an innovative wound dressing film made from mangosteen peel extract and natural rubber—a sustainable Thai-based material with remarkable healing potential.
This advanced film combines both hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers, delivering optimal physicochemical performance, superior drug retention, and controlled release for targeted therapeutic effects. Enriched with xanthones, the bioactive compounds found in mangosteen peel, the film demonstrates strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, accelerating the body’s natural healing process.
This innovation not only supports faster and more effective wound recovery but also highlights Thailand’s capacity to transform local natural resources into high-value biomedical applications that contribute to improved healthcare and well-being.
