RMUTSV’s shared van system is designed to meet several interconnected objectives:
1. Promoting Ride-Sharing Culture and Pollution Reduction
The scheduled van service (two trips daily, 11:00–12:00 and 15:30–16:00), based on surveyed user needs, acts as an incentive for staff and students to reduce the use of private vehicles for commuting. This direct reduction in vehicular traffic on the roads significantly mitigates air pollution and conserves overall energy consumption within the campus. This is a critical component of the Green Campus policy and contributes to achieving SDG 11.6.
2. Asset Management and Economic Efficiency
The systematic utilization of the university’s existing vans for affordable shuttle services ensures the optimal utilization of university assets. Instead of vehicles remaining idle, the service generates minimal revenue and reduces the overall need for personnel to maintain numerous private vehicles, leading to cost savings at both the individual and institutional levels.
3. Accessibility and Equity in Service Provision
The affordable shared service significantly eases commuting for individuals without private transport or those seeking to avoid congestion. This promotes equity in access to transportation services within the university community, fostering an inclusive and safe environment consistent with the principles of SDG
